Social Justice

The Social Action Committee coordinates Social Action Shared Offerings (SASO) periodically throughout the year. On these Sundays the offering – usually used for church operations – is instead designated for an organization outside the church.

Social Action Shared Offerings

bgcSASOTo help the congregation better understand a variety of social justice/service organizations and offer ways to support them, SASOs are designed to:

  • Raise money for these local, national, and international organizations.
  • Raise awareness about a wide variety of social justice issues and groups doing great work to solve the problems and make a tangible difference.

We use the SASOs to educate our members about the issue and group, through:

  • Newsletter articles describing the organization and issue.
  • Information about the issue and/or representatives of related organizations at the Social Action table during Social Hour.
  • Programs, speakers, films, or discussions about the topic during the month.
  • Incorporating the topic into outreach and youth programs
